“Remembering Nickel Mines”Limited Edition Giclee print
The events that took place on October 2nd, 2006 in a one room Amish schoolhouse in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania will live in the minds of many. None more than those men and women who were there. Artist Glenn E. Blue has been painting professionally for over 20 years. He has been in numerous local, national and international art shows, winning countless awards and recognition.
On that fateful day in October, Glenn found himself in the middle of that horrific scene doing the work that he has done for 18 years…the work of a State Trooper. Glenn, a Corporal in the Pennsylvania State Police, was called to the school house shooting and spent more than eight hours there assisting in the investigation.
Weeks later, the Commanding Officer of the Troop commissioned Glenn to paint a painting of the Nickel Mines School as a memorial for the State Police, Troop J Headquarters. This was a difficult task for Glenn and it took him more than a year to complete it.
The scene is the actual school house before it was torn down. A new day is dawning as five doves take flight, representing the five little girls who left this world that day. Five more doves can be found perched about the location symbolizing the five children that survived their injuries.
